We went to Westhaven to check out the boulder field. As it was a bit rainy, we also went for a walk up Sandhills Creek (where there are some existing routes). We were seriously blown away by the potential of the undeveloped cliffs - some of the most impressive pieces of rock I've seen in NZ.

This little buttress is part of the developed area. There is one route on this.... but has potential for some more. The rock is quite like Thailand - solid and covered with amazing feature. Just around the corner you come to the cliffs that have not been developed yet. This wall is 20 -30 high. The yellow stuff is probably featured, solid Thailand-like rock, rather than choss.
Another wall a bit further up valley (one of many)..... Further up valley is this fantastic cliff. Probably 30-50m high. An awkward feature of a lot of the cliffs is that they have a big overhang at the bottom (nothing that a truckload of bolts can't fix)!
Left side of this cliff. Right side of the cliff. Just check out that arete!!
